Playing the Field
20" x 16" inches / acrylic on canvas / 2020
from the "Figments of Imagination" series
These new works were created on the surfaces of unfinished, decade old, projects left from the house I grew up in. Due to the Covid19 pandemic, I migrated back to my hometown of Richmond, Virginia from living in New York city for 6 years. It will have been my longest time since I’d been living in New York. These paintings are a fusion of new and old marking making and processes, rediscovering my innate need for imagination to build my abstractions. I used stencils of letters from the names of ex boyfriends to help me create these images that allude to landscapes. The bridge between my history and imagination provided me a space to think about the importance of recycling as a use to being prosperous.
